White House Aims To Strengthen US Supply Chain Issues

The Biden administration have put into place several new bodies to support US logistics and have now elevated supply chain resilience to the top tier of government.

Over recent months, more than 30 new measures have been introduced to help avoid supply chain issues, including the forming of a new White House Council for Supply Chain Resilience, a Multimodal Freight Office, and a Supply Chain Resilience Centre.

The creation of these new bodies is understood to be a means of avoiding the delays that have plagued US logistics during the last few years.

A spokesman said that they "recognise that robust supply chains are fundamental to a strong economy", emphasising that smooth supply chains should help reduce inflation.

Many issues have led to disrupted logistics movements in the US since the original onset of Covid-19. Major issues have impacted ports, warehouses, railways, and transport, which have crippled US supply chains.

The US government have taken previous action to tackle some of the major logistics obstacles. They recently intervened to stop labour disputes at West Coast ports, fought against the rise in ocean freight costs that followed the pandemic, and have pursued carriers who they felt had overplayed the demurrage and storage charges incurred during heavy congestion.
