Recent Red Sea Attacks Miss Targets

Houthi Rebels have shown no let up in their attacks on ships in The Red Sea, but fortunately the latest attacks this week have failed to hit their targets.

On Monday an attack on a containership operated by Sealead Shipping proved to be unsuccessful. The 4,944 TEU vessel 'Pinocchio' had departed the port of Jeddah in the Red Sea when it was targeted by two anti-ship ballistic missiles from Houthi-controlled Yemen. Thankfully, in this instance the rockets did not hit their mark and the ship was able to proceed with it's journey undamaged.

US military seemed to respond to the attack, by shortly afterwards launching six strikes into Yemen, resulting in the destruction of an unmanned underwater vehicle, two unmanned aerial systems, and 18 anti-ship missiles.

However, the US military were the target of another ship attack on Tuesday, when the warship 'USS Laboon' was targeted by a close-range ballistic missile in the Red Sea. Fortunately again, the missile missed and no injuries or damage was reported.

This week's attacks seem to demonstrate that the Houthi Rebels are unlikely to relent in their attempts to disrupt Red Sea shipping, which in turn suggests it could be a long while before containerships can pass safely through the region again.
