Ocean Rates From Asia Set For Increase Next Month

Recent carrier communications, along with blanked sailing announcements, indicate that a planned GRI may be successfully introduced on the Asian market this month.

Market demand seemingly remains low during the peak season period. However, as reported on our website and social media channels, Maersk Line stated they were increasing their rates from August 1st, earlier this month.

Other carriers are now doing the same. A spate of blanked sailings is a tell-tale sign that lines are reducing capacity to create artificially high demand ahead of a rate increase.

We currently understand a GRI is incoming for ocean rates from Asia to the UK, Europe and North America from August 1st. However, the level of increase is not fully clear and may vary from carrier to carrier.

There have been previous unsuccessful attempts to uplift rates this year, but our advice is to be prepared for this increase.

The Croft Cargo team will be monitoring developments very closely and will update customers with any relevant rate changes in due course. Should you require further information, then please do not hesitate to contact us.
