New Scheme Introduced For Northern Ireland

In conjunction with the new Windsor Framework agreement for Northern Ireland, the UK government have introduced a new scheme that replaces the existing UK Trader Scheme (UKTS) from 30th September.

The UK Internal Market Scheme (UKIMS) has a wider qualifying criteria, which means more companies will be approved. UKIMS will eventually enable shipments to travel through a 'green lane' when arriving in Northern Ireland, although this part will not be effective until next September.

HMRC require traders to complete their UKIMS application before July 31st 2023 if they want to be sure of approval before the new scheme starts on 30th September 2023.

Those already approved for UKTS may continue using it for now. However, this will no longer be valid after 30th September 2023 and users will not be automatically transferred from UKTS to UKIMS. Therefore, it makes sense to start the application process as soon as possible.
