New Rules For EU Animal and Plant Based Products

New import rules for animal and plant based products, originating from the EU and EFTA, come into effect from today. New import risk categories now apply to these product types in line with the government's Border Target Operating Model (BTOM).

The new model, which will extend to many non-EU countries from April 30th, introduces the import risk categories; low, medium, and high. Each of these categories have their own regulations, therefore importers need to check which risk category their product(s) falls under here.

A broad guide to the new risk categories:

Low Risk - No health certificate is required, and no physical checks will be conducted. However, a commercial document from the supplier is required from April 30th.

Medium Risk - A health certificate is required and products may also be subject to documentary, identity, and physical import checks.

High Risk - A health certificate is required and most shipments will be subject to physical checks.

The risk categories may evolve as the new procedures are bedded in, which Croft Cargo will be monitoring closely. For further information, please do not hesitate to contact a member of our team.
