New Import Customs Procedures Set For October

HM Customs are currently reviewing UK import procedures, with a new Border Operating Model (BOM) due in October 2023 that will apparently 'set out a new approach to imports'.

Information is light on the ground, with little or no 'confirmed' detail on the specifics. This has been raising concern, from some organisations within the industry, of a lack of planning and preparation.

The government have shared a 99 page ‘Border Target Operating Model’, which is currently in the ‘feedback’ stage and will undoubtedly be subject to change. The document can be found HERE.

There is likely to be a host of changes to import procedures that will affect both European and worldwide customs, border and trading processes. This will likely include the changes included in the government's Windsor Framework - the new trade deal with the European Union for Northern Ireland.

Forwarders, brokers and importers will seemingly have little time to prepare for these new control changes, which has led to a number of trade and industry associations questioning the implementation schedule.

Croft Cargo are keeping a close eye on developments and will advise further information when the new regulations are confirmed.
