Iran Warns US Strike Would Trigger Attacks on American and Israeli Shipping

An Iranian parliamentary speaker has warned that any US military strike would prompt retaliation against American and Israeli shipping infrastructure, declaring such sites legitimate targets.

The remarks were delivered during a session of parliament in Tehran, as tensions intensify amid widespread anti-government protests and growing speculation about possible foreign intervention.

The comments come while US President Donald Trump considers potential responses to weeks of demonstrations across Iran, which have been met with forceful crackdowns by security services.

Trump has indicated he could authorise military action if protesters are killed and suggested to protestors that 'help is on the way', although US officials say no final decision has been taken and that diplomatic options are still being pursued.

Additionally, Trump announced on his Truth Social platform that the United States will immediately impose a 25 percent tariff on imports from any country that continues trading with Iran. He described the move as “final and conclusive,” though specifics regarding its legal basis and enforcement remain unclear.

It is uncertain which nations would be most affected, but Iran’s major trading partners include China, Turkey, Iraq, the United Arab Emirates and India, raising the prospect of wide-reaching economic consequences.

The tariff threat adds to existing global trade uncertainty, as the US Supreme Court is expected to rule soon—possibly as early as this week—on the legality of Trump’s broader tariff policies, a decision that could further shape international markets.
