Delays Expected For Southern China Ocean Freight Following Typhoon

Ocean freight shipments from Southern China are facing delays after Super Typhoon Ragasa swept through Guangdong province and the Pearl River Delta this week, bringing winds of up to 125 mph.

The storm forced temporary shutdowns at multiple Southern China port terminals - including Hong Kong - as well as factory and business closures ahead of the upcoming Golden Week holiday.

Golden Week, which runs October 1st–7th, typically sees factories closed from September 30th. In the lead-up, exporters had been pushing to complete and dispatch last-minute orders.

However, the typhoon has disrupted these efforts, and some shipments will likely remain at origin until after the holiday period. While factories and terminals began reopening yesterday, the storm’s impact is expected to lead to further congestion, vessel bunching, and backlogs.

Croft Cargo will continue to provide clients with shipment-specific updates as more information becomes available. In the meantime, customers with urgent or time-sensitive orders are encouraged to reach out directly to the team for assistance.
