Asia: Blanked sailings Lead To Space Issues

The decision from carriers to continue to blank voyages from Asia has led to another round of capacity issues.

Steamship lines have been mitigating the low volumes from China by cancelling a high proportion of sailings since Chinese New Year, which has led to a lack of available space and bookings being rolled over on the trade again.

Demand has been decreasing since mid to late 2022 and there has not been the significant post Chinese New Year volume increase that carriers had hoped for.

Therefore, the carrier alliances have been taking vessels out of loops to protect rate levels from falling further. A report suggested this week that Maersk had 29 vessels idle at one point, and including MSC in the 2M Alliance, 42 ships were laid up.

Of course Croft cargo are working hard to manage the situation. If you are concerned about current shipments, then please do not hesitate to contact a member of the team.
