Another Rollback To CDS Export Deadline

HM Customs have this week confirmed that the deadline for switching from CHIEF to CDS for Exports has been rolled back until 30th March 2023.

UK imports were moved over to CDS (Customs Declaration Service) last September and at that time exports were set to follow in March this year. However, the goalposts were moved when HMRC announced that the deadline would be extended until November and now that has been further extended until March 2024.

The CDS software is HM Customs electronic means of handling entries and replaces the outgoing CHIEF system, which has been in operation for around 30 years.

According to their announcement, HMRC have listened to feedback from stakeholders and have decided to phase the export move. This means that CHIEF will continue for the vast majority of users until March, but some high volume declarants will be invited to start using CDS from November.
